I have been using the accessory roofing filters for several months on my FT1000MP Mark V and was not convinced they made a substantial differance until this.
The FT1000MP (MARK-V and FIELD inclusive) Roofing Filter help to reduce the third order IM products from multiple strong signals in the 2 to 20kHz region.

FT-1000MP: + MARK V, Field, VL-1000, 1000D, & 2000.. The main purpose of the roofing filter is image rejection and limitation of the first-IF bandwidth.
